King Charles III Coronation celebrations in the borough this year

10th February 2023
Posted by Aston Avery

People across the UK and the Commonwealth will come together in May 2023 to celebrate the Coronation of His Majesty King Charles III.

The programme of events will include the Coronation ceremony on Saturday 6 May, the Coronation Big Lunch across the country on Sunday 7 May, and The Big Help Out community activity on Monday 8 May – which is also a bank holiday.

Cabinet Member for Communities, Councillor Terri Sargent, said:

“The Coronation of King Charles III will be another landmark event in the borough and across the country, giving residents an opportunity to celebrate together as a community.

“Residents can celebrate the Coronation Big Lunch with family and friends, whether that be through organising a street party of having friends over to your garden to mark the occasion.

“We’re encouraging everyone to get involved and take part in The Big Help Out on Monday 8 May as part of the Kings Coronation celebrations. It’s a real opportunity for residents to get involved in their community, to maybe even try volunteering for themselves, and join the work being undertaken to support their local areas.”

If you would like to host a street party, please see the government guidance at www.gov.uk/government/publications/your-guide-to-organising-a-street-party

We would also like to highlight guidance on www.streetparty.org.uk/guide/street-meet/ – which offers an even easier way to bring neighbours together.

If you require a road closure to host your street party, you will need to submit an application. Please submit any applications before 10 March 2023 as they need to be processed eight weeks in advance of any street party.
