Latest on Advice Store volunteering fair

Essex libraries have just been added to the line-up of exhibitors for this Friday’s volunteering fair at the Advice Store. It will be a drop-in event and run from 12pm-1pm on 3rd February. Find a flyer attached.

As previously announced last week the other organisations present will be: Age Well East, Basis, Community Speed Watch, Essex Child & Family Wellbeing Service, Home Start Essex, NHS Reservists, Peaceful Place, Signpost Resource Centres, and Trust Links.

Advice Store meal budgeting workshops

Places are still available on Clarion Futures budgeting for food shopping sessions which are coming soon to the Advice Store. Plan, Shop, Save will be held weekly on Wednesday afternoons 12pm-2pm as part of the Multiply programme. Participants will take away a £40 Aldi shopping voucher to help put their new meal planning skills into action.

Plan, Shop, Save is for residents of Basildon borough aged 19 or over. Find a flyer attached. For more information or if you would like to express an interest, contact [email protected]

Deadline for Advice Store ESOL

The much admired, hugely successful, and most importantly fun Spoken English for Employment class delivered by Signpost at the Advice Store is due to end on 1st March if further funding is not forthcoming, so new referrals must be made ASAP for them to benefit from it.

The course which began to support Ukrainian refugees has since been opened up to anyone unemployed with the right to work in the UK who lacks confidence in their English specifically in relation to the language of the workplace.

Signpost’s Speaking Club at the Advice Store is also due to end at the same time. The Speaking Club is a conversational group open to anyone who feels they need to improve their spoken English regardless of their employment status or their right to work in the UK or not.

Digital flyers for both are attached. Referrals can be made directly to Signpost or via the Advice Store [email protected]

Basworx returns

Basworx, the vocational training scheme which leads on completion to a guaranteed interview with Morgan Sindall Property Services, is coming back. The next course which runs from 27th-31st March is for those wanting to get a start in administration. Find a flyer attached.

This free course is for Basildon residents aged 16 or over who are not in education, employment, or training. For further information or to express an interest please contact [email protected]

Railway engineering opportunity

Darren Richards of PLIAS Resettlement has brought to my attention a fully funded Railway Engineering L2 course in Rayleigh. The funding is currently limited and will expect for this to be used within the next 2 months, so they want to put through as many who express interest before it ends, therefore this opportunity is not just for young service users, but for anyone that would like to be employed in the sector. They must be 19+ for insurance purposes and need to be unemployed.

The course is 5-6 weeks in duration, full-time. The benefits of this Rail provider is that they are local, as well as being the training provider they are also the employer, and they have work available. Upon successful completion of the course, learners are taken on straight away for shifts.

Registration and assessment session starts today and continues during the week. The official start date has been moved to the 06/02 due to high interest and demand. Any interested parties should send names and contact numbers to [email protected] who will contact them to get the process in motion.

Numeracy courses for employers, employees and the general public

Multiply courses aren’t just for the unemployed, improved numeracy is beneficial to employers and employees. Futures For You have free courses in Everyday Maths Skills delivered online or in person for businesses, their employees, or the general public. Courses can be tailored to the specific needs of the individual or workplace and last 6 hours over two sessions which cover building confidence with numbers and money management. For further information or to sign-up contact [email protected] or speak to a Futures For You adviser who are at the Advice Store on Mondays and Wednesdays.

TCHC are also offering free numeracy training for the staff of employers based in Basildon to upskill their employees maths and confidence with numbers. Staff must be 19+ and must not have Maths at grade C (or equivalent). To find out more, email [email protected] or call 07562 210858.

Money management & wellbeing course

Enable East has also successfully bid for Multiply funding, in this case to trial practical activity with members of the community focussing on money management and personal wellbeing associated with positive relationships with finances.

Delivery is due to start on February 6th and will be alongside Essex Library Services ‘Warm Welcome’ programme in the following libraries: Basildon, Braintree, Canvey, Chelmsford, Clacton, Colchester, and Harlow. All members of the public are welcome to attend as many sessions as they would like and are encouraged to contact Enable East or the library directly to find out further details [email protected]
