Thursday 8 May 2025 will mark the 80th anniversary of VE Day – an opportunity for the borough to come together to honour and pay tribute to the Second World War generation from across the UK and Commonwealth.
Victory in Europe Day is a time to reflect, remember, and come together as a community to honour those who served and sacrificed.

- Laindon – Pound Lane | 8:30pm – 10pm
- Pitsea – Wat Tyler Country Park | 8pm – 9:30pm
- Wickford – Memorial Park | 8pm – 10pm
- Billericay – Sun Corner | 8:30pm – 9:30pm
- Noak Bridge – Wash Road | 7:30pm – 10pm
- Vange – Swanmead | 8:45pm – 9:30pm
- Bowers Gifford – Westlake Park | 7pm
Beacons will be lit across all locations at 9.30pm.
As part of the 80th Anniversary of VE Day, schools and young people are invited to design bunting to be featured at 10 Downing Street! It’s a special chance to honour the heroes of WWII and celebrate national unity through art.
