Volunteers needed for St. Luke’s Christmas tree recycling fundraiser

St. Luke’s Hospice is seeking volunteers to help with its first Christmas tree collection and recycling fundraising initiative.

The charity is looking for volunteers with their own van to help collect Christmas trees from designated addresses on Saturday 11^thand Sunday 12^th January, 9am – 4pm, and drop them off at the Basildon Recycle Barleylands Depot. Addresses will be concentrated within a three mile radius of the depot and routes will be mapped out for each driver before the day.

The Christmas tree recycling scheme will raise funds by asking each household having their tree collected to make a small donation to St. Luke’s Hospice. 

Volunteers are also needed to help navigate drivers and load trees into the vans. Each volunteer will be provided with a bacon roll in the morning and tea and coffee throughout the day. 

Joanne Phillips, Community Fundraiser at St. Luke’s Hospice, said:

“We are incredibly excited to launch our first ever Christmas tree collection and recycling scheme but we can’t do it without the help of volunteers! If you own a van and want do something amazing after the festive period, we would love to hear from you.”

St. Luke’s Hospice offers care for those living with or affected by cancer and any other advanced, life-threatening illness in Basildon and Thurrock, and care is given within the Hospice or at home, wherever that may be.
