A group of 16 Year 9 boys from Mayflower School in Billericay have shaved their heads to support their friend Charlie who is undergoing treatment for osteosarcoma, a rare bone cancer.
The boys have already raised more than £12,000 for the Teenage Cancer Trust, which is supporting Charlie and his family.
Charlie said:
“I have never felt a shock like I did when I found out I had cancer. Seeing my friends is something to look forward to, and I didn’t really realise what I meant to them until now.”
Charlie was diagnosed in September, just a week after noticing a lump on his leg. He is currently on an intensive chemotherapy schedule, spending three weeks in hospital followed by two weeks at home.
Friend Archie said:
“We just wanted to support Charlie and not let him be the only one with a buzz cut. We are all here to support him through everything.”
The school sends its best wishes to Charlie and his family and will continue to support him throughout his treatment.
