Councillors have agreed to grant £3,000 for the Lake Meadows Water Station.

The Neighbourhoods and Public Spaces Committee met on 25 September to go through proposals for a number of initiatives to help support communities. One of them being the Lake Meadows Water Station.

The water fountain is the main element of the station which also has a bottle filler with a dog bowl

Chair of The Friends of Lake Meadows, Charles Novis said:

The Friends of Lake Meadows agreed on the project with an objective to reduce the use of “single-use” plastic bottles. It has been looking to get funding for the project.

“We were delighted that last week, the Council’s Neighbourhoods and Public Spaces Committee agreed to make a grant of £3000 towards the cost of the water station.

“When we have the remainder of the funding in place we will finalise the timings, we look to have it ready for use in March next year.”

Chair of the Neighbourhoods and Public Spaces Committee, Councillor David Harrison said:

“The Friends of Lake Meadows work very hard to help look after this wonderful Billericay park in partnership with Basildon Council – and we are delighted to be able to help with the funding of a water drinking fountain in the Park.”
