Essex to enter new Tier 4, with tougher restrictions from tomorrow

From tomorrow, Essex (except for Colchester, Uttlesford and Tendring), along with London and much of the South East, will be put under tougher coronavirus restrictions.

With less than a week to go before Christmas, the Prime Minister has announced that Essex has been put under Tier 4 restrictions, similar to the November lockdown.

Tier 4 restrictions will ban household mixing, close non-essential shops, beauty salons and gyms, and cancel Christmas plans for many Brits.

The festive bubble previously allowed the mixing of 3 households for 5 days over the Christmas period. For people in the South East and London, these plans are now cancelled.

Instead, the Prime Minister instructed us to celebrate Christmas with those in existing support bubbles, made up of one household and one single adult household.

This comes after rising infection rates in Essex, Kent and London, with Basildon currently having the highest infection rate in England.

No matter what, Gateway 97.8 is here for you this Christmas.
