Careers event for young people interested in work using STEAM subjects

Young people interested in work which utilises STEAM subjects are invited to an online career event during half-term.

The Essex 2020 Talent Forward event is being held on Wednesday, 28 October, a career day for young people aged 14-25 from Essex with an interest in in Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Maths (STEAM) subjects.

Talent Forward is an opportunity to have honest and inspiring conversations about the current and future world of work – with industry professionals from the world of coding, games, digital commerce and engineering.

The event, designed to help young people discover how creativity and curiosity can lead to a dream career, is sponsored by City Fibre as part of the Essex 2020 celebration.

There will be livestreams, pre-recorded talks, demonstrations and presentations from industry professionals from such companies as:

  • Teledyne e2v
  • Telecoms Engineering with City Fibre
  • Games Design with Into Games
  • Digital Business with Amazon
  • Sustainability and Environment with Haynard Ltd
  • City Fibre
  • NatWest
  • Microsoft
  • South Essex College
  • Focal Point Gallery

All of the sessions can be accessed online and are free to join on the day, but it is worth noting three of the sessions must be booked in advance.

1. Professionals Playlist, a Zoom and Facebook livestream of pre-recorded videos and presentations from industry professionals from: Leonardo, NHS, Global Marine Group

2. Industry Q&As, your chance to ask questions of professionals from different industries in an exclusive Zoom session. These sessions include:

  • Technology with Teledyne e2v
  • Telecomms Engineering with City Fibre
  • Games Design with Into Games
  • Digital Business with Amazon
  • Sustainability and Environment with Haynard Ltd

3. A Careers Roundtable discussion entitled ‘What skills will be needed in the future and what are the jobs that don’t exist yet?’ and a Q&A with a panel of special guests from Microsoft, GhScientific, South Essex College, Focal Point Gallery and more.

Councillor Dick Madden, Essex County Council Cabinet Member for Essex 2020, said:
