General Election 2019 – Essex remains Conservative

In the 2019 general election, all Essex seats were held by the Conservative Party. Nationally, Boris Johnson’s Conservative Party made gains, leading to an overall Conservative majority.

In Basildon and Billericay, the result was as follows:

  1. Conservative – John Baron
    • Votes: 29,590
    • Vote share: 67.1%
    • Vote share change: +6.1
  2. Labour – Andrew Gordon
    • Votes: 9,178
    • Vote share: 20.8%
    • Vote share change: -10.3
  3. Liberal Democrat – Edward Sainsbury
    • Votes: 3,741
    • Vote share: 8.5%
    • Vote share change: +5.0
  4. Green – Stewart Goshawk
    • Votes: 1,395
    • Vote share: 3.2%
    • Vote share change: +3.2
  5. Social Democratic Party – Simon Breedon
    • Votes: 224
    • Vote share: 0.5%
    • Vote share change: +0.5

The South Basildon and East Thurrock result was as follows:

  1. Conservative – Stephen Metcalfe
    • Votes: 29,973
    • Vote share: 66.2%
    • Vote share change :+9.3
  2. Labour – Jack Ferguson
    • Votes: 10,051
    • Vote share: 22.2%
    • Vote share change: -10.3
  3. Independent – Kerry Smith
    • Votes: 3,316
    • Vote share: 7.3%
    • Vote share change: +7.3
  4. Liberal Democrat – Michael Bukola
    • Votes: 1,957
    • Vote share: 4.3%
    • Vote share change: +2.8
