Mayfest to return to Basildon

Mayfest will be back in Basildon Town Square again on Saturday 9th May 2020.

The three successful Mayfest events (2016-18) in Basildon Town Centre will continue again in 2020.

An agreement has been reached between the Rotary Club of Basildon Concord, who hosted the three events, and Basildon & Pitsea Carnival Association for them together to host next year’s event.

Danny Lovey of the Rotary Club of Basildon Concord said

“I was unable for family reasons to run the event this year, which was disappointing all round, as many organisations had expressed disappointment and have been asking me if I will be doing it again next year. As much as I want to, it was evident to me that we needed to have Mayfest as a legacy for Basildon and that the management of it and its longevity had to be assured. Amongst those that were asking were Stuart Terson and Paul Dawnay of Basildon & Pitsea Carnival Association. After some discussion with them they had the desire to use their skills to work it and could take on a lot of the administrative work using their established platform. The synergies were there and Basildon Council confirmed that they would be happy to provide the Town Centre site again for the event. I have confidence that Stuart and the carnival committee in the longer term have the ability to carry things forward. ”

Application forms to participate in the 2020 event will be sent out towards to end of December/early January
