Free taster sessions on offer at George Hurd Centre open day

1st October 2019
Posted by Johnny Jenkins

Residents over the age of 50 are invited to try out the activities on offer at the George Hurd Centre during an open day next week.

The open day and free taster sessions will take place between 10am and 3pm on Tuesday 8 October 2019.

The George Hurd Centre is a lively, happy Centre for residents over the age of 50. You are welcome to come in for a friendly chat and a cup of tea. Light lunch is available at mid-day or you can join in one of our daily classes at the centre. Activities include bowls, keep fit, choir, crafts and many more. You can also visit the on-site hairdresser (by appointment only).

Membership is £1 per week and classes are on average only £2. First class is free as a taster.

Coach trips such as tours of Buckingham Palace, days out to the seaside and visits to West End shows happen every month. The committee also organises an annual summer holiday and other socials.

Chair of the Housing and Communities Committee, Councillor Kerry Smith, said:

“Activity Centres are great places to stay active, get help and advice and, most importantly, to socialise and have fun. So don’t sit indoors feeling lonely and isolated, come along, make new friends and maybe learn a new skill, you’ll be very welcome.”
