England captain Eoin Morgan says they’ll be sticking with their Cricket World Cup winning top three for the one-day international series against Australia. Jos Buttler was promoted to open the batting in the T20 contest against the tourists, while Joe Root was left out. But Morgan’s confirmed Buttler will slip back down the order – and Root returns at number three for this afternoon’s opening match at Old Trafford.

Scotland’s Russell Knox is the leader after the opening round of the new PGA Tour golf season. He holds a one-shot advantage in California at the Safeway Open. Knox has been out of form recently, missing the cut in 10 of his last 12 starts.

Essex Eagles are back in T20 Vitality Blast action tonight as they face Surrey at the Cloudfm County Ground. The Eagles progressed to the final of the County Championship earlier this week but have yet to win a game in this years T20 tournament. Essex are looking to retain the title but will need a strong finish to group stages to advance to the quarter-finals.

The preliminary round of this seasons FA Cup kicks off tomorrow. Many teams from the Basildon and East Thurrock area will feature in the tournament this weekend. Bowers and Pitsea welcome Barton Rovers to their home ground, Grays Athletic also host Witham Town. Basildon United travel to Stansted as well as Tilbury who travel to Coggeshall Town.

East Thurrock welcome another new signing to Rookery Hill. The defender has joined the rocks from Canvey Island and has already worked under Paul Martin at Romford FC. East Thurrock start their season next weekend with a trip to Chesnut FC.
