Brazil have become one of the few national football teams who will pay equal wages to their mens and womens football team. This will see female stars such as Marta being paid the same as Neymar, Gabriel Jesus and Roberto Firmino. Brazil are the 4th nation to make this decison following in Australlia, New Zealand and Norway’s footsteps. 

British tennis player, Kyle Edmund was defeated in the US Open yesterday to 3 times winner Novak Djockovic. Edmund looked to cause an upset as he won the first set however the Serbian proved to strong for the 25 year old as he put on an exhibition to extend his unbeaten run in 2020. Djockovic is looking to win his 18th Grand Slam title.

Former British Olympic sprinter, Christian Malcom has been named the new head coach of UK athletics. The Welshman will have less than a year to prepare for the Tokyo Olympics that were postponed due to the Coronavirus. In 2017 he was named UK Sports Awards HP Coach of the year as well as BBC Wales Coach of the year. 

In Local news, Essex Eagles are back in action tonight against Middlesex CC for their 4th fixture of the T20 Vitality Blast. Both sides are winless so far and have identical records from the first three matches. The sides met in Chelmsford last week but the game was ultimatly rained off and the match ended with no result. The game will take place at Lord’s and starts at 6:15pm.

Basildon United FC’s FA Cup dream will start next Saturday with a trip to Stansted FC. They will face off in the prelimanry rounds after Stansted beat Takely FC 3-2 last night. The Bees also secured the signing of centre back Jack Grosvenor from Walthamstow yesterday and he could make his debut tomorrow night as Basildon face Bowers and Pitsea’s U23s in a friendly.
