Here’s the sports news with Tommy Bennett:

After the news broke that Brazil’s FA will pay their mens and womens football team the same wages it was announced that England will be the 5th Nation to do so. The English FA revealed that they have been paying their men and women equally since January 2020. The match fees that players receive is believed to be around £1,000 per game.

In Rugby league, The Catalans Dragon’s will be the first team to welcome fans back into the stadium since the return of the Super league. They host Wigan Warriors on the 12th September and will be able to invite 5,000 fans into the 13,000 capacity stadium. This will be the Catalan’s first game in France since the restart after being forced to play all of their fixtures at English neutral venues. 

Essex Eagles failed to pick up their first win of their T20 Vitality Blast title defence last night. It was their  4th match in this years tournament and they fell just short of Middlesex CC losing by 11 runs. The eagles required 20 runs from the last over and were given hope after a free shot was given for the first ball but Middlesex did just enough for the win. Essex travel to The Kia Oval on Saturday with a fixture against Kent Spitfires. 

East Thurrock FC season preparations continue after the announcement of 3 new signings. Micheal Agboola has joined from Isthmian league side Hullbridge and the centre back has previously played under the Rock’s manager. London born attacking midfielder Zenon Stylianides has also joined after a spell in Cyprus’ pro league. The last of the three is Anointed Chukwu and the highly rated striker joins after breaking into Salford FC’s first team in 2018. 

Thurrock Swimming Club’s Nikita Charykin has been selected for the Swim England National Development programme for 2020. The selection came after his success at this year’s Essex Championships. Nikita finished top boy for his age group breaking county records and ranking top 5 nationally.
