A group of talented young people who work hard behind the scenes took centre stage at a special show after receiving a letter from Lord Andrew Lloyd Webber congratulating them on their achievements.

Thameside Young Producers was formed in 2013 by Franki McEwen and is based at Thameside Theatre in Grays. It gives young people aged 14 – 19 years-old an opportunity to learn the skills they need to work backstage in a theatre, including lighting design, sound and stage management, as well as event management and front of house operations.

They have produced 16 shows over the last two years, giving more than 1,500 talented youngsters a chance to perform, and on Sunday (30 June) put on dance spectacular Dance-Di-Finity 2019. Among the audience were Mayor of Thurrock, Cllr Terry Piccollo and Cabinet Member for Central Services and Communities, Cllr Deborah Huelin.

The highlight of the evening was when the Mayor read a letter from Lord Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Really Useful Company commending the Thameside Young Producers on the fantastic work they do.

Cllr Huelin said:

“I thoroughly enjoyed the show on Sunday and was delighted to learn that the amazing young producers who put on this show and so many other events are receiving praise from one of the most prestigious theatre companies in the country.”

Thameside Young Producers also produce the entertainment stage at the Orsett Show and organise a talent competition in Thurrock, which culminates in finalists performing live on stage at the show. This year’s talent show auditions take place on Sunday, 21 July 2019. For more information and to reserve a place, please contact Franki McEwen on 07833 444391. The Orsett Show takes place on Saturday, 7 September 2019 at the Orsett Showground.
