The winners of the 2020 Thurrock Civic Awards were announced at a special ceremony on Friday 28 February, hosted by Orsett-born former Paralympic European and World Champion, Danny Crates.

Taking place at the Civic Hall, Grays, the ceremony brought together finalists from the 8 award categories to announce the winners and celebrate their time and effort put into the local community, making a positive contribution to the borough.

During the ceremony special acknowledgements were also made to Thurrock’s long service volunteers and the three organisations who were winners of the Queen’s Award for Voluntary Services (QACVS) last year.

Cllr Deb Huelin, Cabinet Member for Central Services and Communities, said:

“The Civic Awards celebrate our fantastic local stars who go above and beyond to help and support our communities. It was a wonderful evening and such a pleasure to meet so many people and hear their stories and commitment to Thurrock. Congratulations to all finalists and winners.

“I would like to thank our sponsors who made the evening possible, all of which are organisations and businesses located in or connected to Thurrock. In total more than £500 was raised for the Mayor’s charity, Giving for Thurrock (GiFT), with raffle prizes donated by local businesses.”
