Friendship Choir Launches in Thurrock

A twelve week Friendship Choir pilot recently launched at Cromwell Road Adult Day Care Centre. Run by Creative Blast, the sessions begin with fun vocal warm ups and a wide variety of familiar songs chosen by attendees. 

The first two weeks of the pilot were exclusively for members of Cromwell Road Adult Day Care Centre but it has since opened up to other adult services users who are known to the council.

From Monday 8 July, adults from across the borough are invited to come along to the Friendship Choir. This opportunity is for not just for those with dementia but vulnerable adults across the borough also.

Cllr Sue Little, Portfolio Holder for Children’s and Adults Social Care, said:

“It was great to enjoy singing with this delightful group of residents today, I am overwhelmed by the atmosphere experienced at the Friendship Choir. It is a fabulous opportunity for our vulnerable adults to express themselves, feel positive and make new friends through singing.”

Daryl Branch, Director at Creative Blast, said:

“It is an absolute pleasure to be leading this singing session with older adults from Thurrock. Group singing can have a significant positive effect on mental health and quality of life, including reducing anxiety, depression and the feeling of loneliness and isolation experienced by so many older people, which can have a serious effect upon their wellbeing, it’s great that we can offer this to residents.”

The Friendship Choir takes place on Monday’s from 2pm to 3pm at Cromwell Road Day Care Centre, Grays. There is no cost to attend however your place must be booked in advance due to limited capacity.
