Adults and young people in Thurrock can access a free, online weight-loss support programme, thanks to a collaboration between Thurrock Council and Solutions 4 Health.

ShapeUp4Life is a new weight-management initiative designed to assist Thurrock residents in making changes to their lifestyle and activity levels to lose weight. Using a smartphone, tablet or laptop, the easy-to-use site offers food, activity and goal diaries, weekly video sessions with experts, and unlimited access to ShapeUp4Life recipes and ideas to support a healthy balanced diet, alongside regular emails full of tips and home exercise sessions.

The programme is available to residents living in Thurrock who want to lose weight and are older than 14 years old. It is also appropriate for people living with conditions such as Type Two diabetes, controlled high blood pressure and depression.

Cllr James Halden, Cabinet Member for Education and Health, said:

“Obesity is a real issue throughout the borough and can have a major impact in the health of all our residents.

“By teaming up with Solutions 4 Health, we can offer eligible participants an ideal opportunity to improve their health and get fit through the online ShapeUp4Life scheme.

“We are committed to tackling the nationwide obesity problem on a local level and enhance the health and wellbeing of Thurrock’s adults and young people.”

Interested residents do not need to be referred by a GP or health professional to take part in the initiative. For more information, visit: thurrock.gov.uk/improving-your-health/healthy-weight
