Two local men arrested for fraud

Essex Police have arrested two men after an elderly woman from Benfleet attempted to withdraw thousands of pounds from her bank.

The men, aged 23 and 24,  were arrested in Basildon town centre yesterday, Tuesday 4 August, on suspicion of fraud and burglary.

It follows reports that a woman aged in her 80s was asked to pay a significant sum of cash after they cleaned her driveway and painted her roof.

The bank quickly acted to call police after realising she was a victim of crime. 

The men remain in custody.
