Neil Gits To See A Full Bus

14th December 2024
Posted by Neil Matthew

I’ve probably used buses more times this year than at any time in my life since before I could drive. Sure, I’ve often travelled around cities that way when on city breaks in recent years to places like Amsterdam, Berlin, Dublin, Edinburgh & Krakow, but this year I discovered the ” £2 Anywhere Fare ” running acrosss Essex when Nathan & I took the X30 to Stansted airport on our Poland trip in January. I gave it a trial on a visit to Chelmsford early in the summer and it proved quite successful, saving money on expensive parking and a fair bit on petrol too…

Admittedly, a bus trip can take at least twice as long as by car – 2 hours 20 minutes to get from Basildon to Stansted ! – but if you’re not in a hurry and have time on your hands it’s nice to save some cash. For me personally, there’s no trouble getting a seat either, as the nearest bus stop to my house is just one down the route from the starting point and I always get on or off at Chelmsford Station, so I am usually the first one back on coming home. In any case, despite the great value of this offer, I have yet to see a full bus – that was until a couple of weeks ago !

No offence to anyone from “Wonderful Wonderful Wickford Town” but I very rarely see anything interesting when driving through there on my way to Gateway each Monday, but on this occasion I spotted a bus with the words “Bus Full” flashing on and off on the front display as it came round a roundabout. Maybe it’s because I am now using buses regularly that I pay more attention to them – I certainly let them pull out much more often than I used to ! – but it was the first time I’d seen this. The bizarre thing was though … there were only TWO passengers on board !!

I am still confused by that sight now, admittedly it doesn’t take much to confuse me these days – just check out the ‘Repeat Play’ tonight (Saturday) at 5pm to see what a muddle I got in this week during the show. Or just enjoy these fab tracks on the playlist :
