A man has been seriously injured in a stabbing in Chelmsford.

Essex Police said officers were called at 02:25 GMT to Queensland Crescent, to reports that a man had suffered stab wounds to his leg.

Police believe the 38-year-old, who is from Norwich, was also struck over the head with an unknown object.

The victim was taken to hospital where he is undergoing treatment for serious but not life-threatening injuries.

Acting Det Insp Andy Glister said: "There were a number of people at the scene but left before officers arrived and I am appealing for anyone who has yet to speak to us to please get in touch."

Police said they were looking for two black men in connection with the attack.

One was described as about 5ft 11ins tall (180cm) and of muscular build while the other man was slightly shorter and of slim build.
