Neil Gits Woken Up

Well, everyone seemed quite happy with the hot weather and the sunshine around the Basildon area this weekend, but of course every silver lining is contained within a cloud and it can present the odd problem or two when the temperature gets too hot for us fair-skinned, bald-headed folks … like sleeping for instance ! Ironically, after a run of days inexplicably waking up briefly between 6am (ouch!) and 6.30am, on the last couple of nights I have slept through to my normal get out of bed time of nearer 9am, but now I fear the heat will scupper such blissful zzzzz’s time, so here I am blogging late at night to make sure I am totally knackered before my head hits the pillow !!

You are fully up to date with my latest playlists, so let’s look ahead to this Monday’s LIVE show and what you can expect to hear. It may be yet another Bank Holiday (I swear it is now ONLY the banks that actually shut on these Mondays now !!) but I have a “normal” show lined up, mainly so that if you are usually unable to tune in for the original broadcast you can experience just how “The Old Git” rolls … and maybe be tempted to check out more of the same on the “Listen Again” facility 🙂

The show mainly features vintage soul, jazz-funk & disco tunes from the 70s and 80s, but occasionally I dip into the 60s and 90s too, plus with the wealth of fantastic new smooth soul music being made these days, I find myself more and more featuring fresh tracks for features such as the “Soul Soothers”& “Mellow Moments”. This month is typical as our “Featured Artist” is The Haggis Horns and there are two “Featured Albums” the classically soulful “Too” by Cliff Payne and the “Soul House” collection by Brian Power – expect one cut from each across the show. Of course, “The Old Gits Jazzy Bit” is nearly always a cool instrumental from back in the day, “The Soul Years” transports you back to this day somewhere in the 70s or 80s for three totally uninterrupted huge chooons bringing back the memories and there is also “The Sounds Of The Street” which has nearly seen us work our way through the full iconic ‘Street Sounds’ compilations collection – it’s the first track from Edition 21 this time !
