Metal welcomes home one of its own in July when Ruti, winner of The Voice, returns to Chalkwell Park to play Village Green.

19 year old Ruti from Ockenden was a student at the Youth Creation Performing Arts School in Stanford-le-Hope when she won The Voice in 2018. She was working hard on her singing career before that, making an appearance in 2017 as a young unknown on Village Green’s Oak Stage and in 2013, whilst a pupil at Gable Hall School, she sang in the final of Thurrock’s Young Musician of the Year.

Ruti released her new single Racing Cars on 5th April and she performed the single live on the final of The Voice on Saturday 7th April.

In 2017 Ruti also undertook work experience at Metal. Sean McLoughlin, Village Green Festival Director said

‘We can’t wait to see Ruti performing at Village Green on the main stage. We have watched her career with great interest and we all remember her as a really lovely young woman with enormous talent.’

Village Green, the very popular family-centred, not-for-profit festival takes place in Chalkwell Park, on 13 July 2019 from 11am until 9pm – ten hours of arts, music and performance for all ages. The Oak Stage is back again this year, showcasing young unsigned musicians from around the area and for the first time it is curated and run by Metal’s Youth Forum, a group of young people from schools and colleges in Southend and its surrounding areas. The soon to be announced line up will include comedy, spoken word and of course, lots more music.

Tickets for Village Green are on sale now. As in previous years, 500 free tickets are available to holders of Southend Council’s Advantage card. These can be picked up from the Southend Borough Council reception – just have your Advantage Card ready to show.
