Thurrock residents’ views sought in polling station review

Residents are invited to have their say in a public consultation reviewing what voting facilities are like in Thurrock. 

The consultation, which runs until Sunday 18 August, offers everyone in the parliamentary constituencies of Thurrock or South Basildon and East Thurrock an opportunity to give their views on the polling districts, places and stations currently used in Thurrock’s 20 electoral wards. Local political parties, MPs and councillors can also have their say on factors including location and accessibility, and provide suggestions for improvement. 

Cllr Deborah Huelin, Cabinet Member for Central Services and Communities, said:

“Polling districts, places and stations are a key part of the democratic and electoral process that this country abides by. It is important that Thurrock residents can have their say to help us remove barriers and encourage as many people as possible to vote. 

“This consultation will enable us to use any feedback to determine if what is currently in place is fit for purpose for our electorate. I urge all residents, groups and communities to think about the voting set-up in their ward and fill in the online consultation.” 

Government legislation requires that all local authorities review their polling districts, places and stations. Thurrock Council must undertake and complete this evaluation by Friday 31 January 2020.
