Almost half of workers in the East of England have spent time during lockdown searching for a new role, according to latest research, with the jobseekers’ market set to surge when those furloughed and working from home return to work.

A survey of employees and jobseekers conducted by Monster, the leading recruitment platform, reveals how employee values and motivations have changed since the start of lockdown, with almost half of residents (48 percent) who either worked from home or were furloughed during lockdown considering leaving their current job as a result.

Feeling that their career is meaningful and of value to the wider society, how their employer treated the workforce during the pandemic, and being able to work from home at least part time, are among the new priorities for employees and jobseekers in the region.

In the UK, over 80 percent of people want their work to have meaning, with almost two thirds of people (65 percent) currently on the lookout for a new position that gives them a greater sense of purpose, according to the research.

Aston spoke to Derek Jenkins, general manager at Monster to discuss the research in further and he was also on hand to offer advice and guidence as to what you should do when searching for job.
