Alcopops, number ones and teen idols

13th May 2011
Posted by Gateway 97.8

Throughout 2011, the 90s Revival has been celebrating twenty one years since the decade began by playing EVERY number one single which topped the charts. At the end of last Tuesday’s show, we’d reached the Brit Pop chart battle year of 1995, and we’ve now played only 86 of the 205 number one hits. So there’s quite a few to go yet – and plenty of 90s nostalgia to soak up.

On Tuesday 17th May, we wrap up the remainder of 1995 with chart toppers from Shaggy and Simply Red. We then move into 1996, the year Girl Power exploded into our lives and we all hoped that football was finally coming home after thirty years of waiting!

Throughout the decades, every generation has their teen idols, none more so than the nineties, from Mariah Carey to just about any member of a boy band or star of 90210. We paid homage to that on the show this week with hits from the likes of Billie, B*Witched and Boyzone (other artists which don’t start with the letter ‘B’ are available).

If you’ve got an idea for other ways the 90s Revival can celebrate the landmark of 21 years since the decade begun, we’d love to hear from you. Maybe there’s an icon from the nineties you’d like us to interview?
