Alice Beer on why it pays to be loyal

Gone are the days when points or rewards from loyalty programmes would only be used to cover meals out, new gadgets, luxuries, or contribute to trips away.

Now, they are more likely to be used to cut basic household costs, with the vast majority (66%) using their points to reduce the cost of their weekly grocery shop or to make train fares cheaper making the cost more manageable.

That’s according to the second annual Points Index report from Virgin Red, tracking the nation’s attitude towards spending and loyalty programmes.
