Bosses must look beyond cost alone to entice employees back to office

Renowned business leader Sir Martin Sorrell’s remarks comparing hybrid working to the fall of the Roman Empire have sparked a heated debate on the future of work. However, a study on workplace design reveals a shift in employee priorities, with sustainability emerging as a paramount concern among younger generations in the UK.

83% of UK workers aged 18 to 29 now consider sustainability more important than their annual bonus, according to Brookfield Properties and Foster + Partners, but are businesses taking this into account? Additionally, 34% of employees deem a sustainable workspace as one of their essential job must-haves, increasing expectations for businesses to prioritise sustainability.

The current state of office working shows mixed sentiments among employees.

Aston spoke to Dan Scanlon, executive vice president at Brookfield Properties and Natalie Pearce, culture designer at the Future Kind Collective.
