Brits bamboozled by green veg

How many people confuse ‘swiss chard’ for ‘roulade’, or can’t tell their sprouts from their sauerkraut? Turns out Brits are not only bad at eating greens, but they also can’t identify their basic vegetables, according to new research released today.

The research commissioned by FutureYou Cambridge surveyed 2,000 UK adults and found that one in 10 adults do not know what cabbage and asparagus look like, whilst one in six could not identify a leek. A fifth of adults had trouble naming the humble garden pea!

The average adult eats the same four green vegetables on rotation. Therefore, it’s no surprise that when it came to identifying less common vegetables, more than a third didn’t recognise watercress or pak choi. 60 per cent of adults were also bamboozled by trendy superfood kale.

Aston spoke to Dr Max Gowland PhD, chief scientific officer at FutureYou Cambridge and creator of Britain’s first super green effervescent drink Super Greens+ to discuss the research in further detail.
