Brits overlook disease beating foods

Most of us know that certain foods aren’t good for us and can be linked to a host of health problems. We also know that eating a wide variety of healthy foods keep you in good health. However, the latest research suggests too few of us are aware that everyday fruit and veg, like carrots, oranges and grapes, contain properties that can help beat diseases.

New research from Vodafone shows that despite 75% of Britons being aware that eating certain foods can help with prevention of chronic diseases, the vast majority (70%) have never heard of ’hyperfoods’ – those foods that are richest in cancer-beating molecules. And three in 10 (29%) say they are confused about what really constitutes a healthy diet.

The research – which coincides with the publication of a new cookbook, HYPERFOODS – suggests one in five (20%) Britons don’t know how much fruit or veg they should be eating and less than half (45%) eat the recommended 5 portions a day. A further quarter (25%) admit they don’t eat a balanced diet and do not consider their health when they eat.

Aston spoke to Dr Kirill Veselkov, lead research at Imperial College of London and Jozef Youssef, chef, founder and creative director at Kitchen Theory to discuss the research; the potential impact of Hyperfoods and how
to incorporate them in your diet; and how technology and AI is being used to create asmarter healthcare system and better outcomes for patients.
