Dr Alex George explains why dog walking is good for our mental wellbeing

New research conducted by Purina has shown that two-fifths (40%) of dog owners describe the morning dog walk as their ‘moment of calm’ before the day starts, with a third (32%) saying the daily dog walk is how they look after their own mental wellbeing.

In fact, 44% of those surveyed agree that spending time outside each day boosts their mental wellbeing and as many as two in five (40%) claim that dog walking leads to them become less stressed.

According to the research, these mental health benefits are so well received that the nation’s dog owners are taking advantage first thing in the day, with 7.46am the most popular time of day for Brits to walk their dog.

The new figures come as Purina announces it is joining forces with Dr Alex George to launch a new campaign in support of its long-term charity partner, Canine Partners.
