Motorsport update – 13th September

Below is a recap of the latest motorsport news from the past weekend.

F1 Italian GP:

Top 5 drivers:

  • 1st: Daniel Ricciardo (McLaren),
  • 2nd: Lando Norris (McLaren),
  • 3rd: Valtteri Bottas (Mercedes),
  • 4th: Charles Leclerc (Ferrari),
  • 5th: Sergio Perez (Red Bull)

Biggest Talking Points:

  • McLaren secured a 1-2 finish and the teams first win since Jenson Button in Brazil 2012 with Daniel Ricciardo beating teammate Lando Norris home to win the 2021 Italian GP,
  • Both title rivals, Mercedes’s Lewis Hamilton and Red Bull’s Max Verstappen collided at the Rettifilo Chicane. Max Verstappen will take a three place grid drop for Sochi after colliding with Lewis Hamilton at turn 2 as the Red Bull flew over the top of the Mercedes’s Lewis Hamilton at turn 2.
  • Antonio Giovinazzi (Alfa Romeo) made contact with Ferrari of Carlos Sainz at turn 4 however Antonio Giovinazzi was given a penalty after re-joining the track in an unsafe manner.
  • Estaban Ocon (Alpine) and Sebastian Vettel (Aston Martin) both came together at Della Roggia Chicane.

F1 drivers championship standings after Monza top 5:

  • 1st: Max Vertsappen (Red Bull), (226.5 Points)
  • 2nd: Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes), (221.5 Points)
  • 3rd: Valtteri Bottas (Mercedes), (141 Points)
  • 4th: Lando Norris (Mclaren), (132 Points)
  • 5th: Sergio Perez (Red Bull). (118 Points)
