Motorsport update – 19th October

Last weekend’s motor racing scene was very quiet however there is plenty of news to mention. F1 and the BTCC will return this coming weekend with F1 heading to Portugal and the BTCC racing at Snetterton in Norfolk.

F1 News Stories

  1. F1 will race in Portugal for the first time since 1996. Mercedes’s Lewis Hamilton leads the Drivers Championship by 69 Points from Mercedes teammate Valtteri Bottas as the teams and drivers head to Portimao.
  2. Portimao Circuit will host its first F1 GP this coming weekend. The Circuit has hosted many other motor racing events including: European Le Mans Series, A1 GP and Moto GP (later this year).
  3. Mercedes’s Lewis Hamilton is aiming to make history at this weekend’s Portuguese GP. Lewis Hamilton can break 7 time world champion. Michael Schumacher’s 91 career victory’s tally if he wins in Portimao this weekend which means he could become the most successful F1 Driver of all time in terms of race victories.

BTCC News Stories:

  1. Jess Hawkins will be racing for Power Maxed Racing at this weekend’s BTCC meeting at Snetterton. Hawkins, who raced in the inaugural W Series Championship in 2019, will be driving the Vauxhall Astra for Rounds 22, 23 and 24 of the Championship.
  2. Glynn Geddie will be racing for RCIB with Fox Transport (Team Hard) for the final two meetings of the 2020 BTCC season at Snetterton and Brands Hatch Indy.
  3. Laser Tools Racing’s Ash Sutton leads the Drivers Championship by 7 Points from Halford’s Yuasa Racing’s Dan Cammish with Colin Turkington third for WSR Team BMW. Drivers and Teams will be heading to Snetterton and they will be racing on the 300 Circuit.
