Motorsport update – 23rd November

24th November 2020
Posted by Gateway 97.8

The last week has been quiet in motor racing. There was action on the 16th November with F1 holding the Turkish GP and the BTCC holding its season finale at Brands Hatch on the Indy circuit. Congratulations to Lewis Hamilton for winning his 7th F1 World Championship and his 6th title for Mercedes after winning the F1 Turkish GP in wet conditions.

Hamilton equals Michael Schumacher’s incredible feat of 7 world championships as he becomes the most successful F1 driver of all time. In the BTCC, Ash Sutton won his second title for Laser Tools Racing as he finished P6 in race three to clinch the crown away from Team BMW’s Colin Turkington in a wet finale at Brands Hatch.

Here’s some of last week’s biggest news stories:

  • Pirelli F1 boss Mario Isola remains in self isolation after testing positive for Covid-19. Isola tested Positive for Covid-19 last week after the F1 Turkish GP and is still awaiting for the all clear.
  • Red Bull want a engine supplier for 2022 finalised at the end of November 2020. This news comes as Honda will pulling out of the sport at the end of the 2021 F1 season.
  • Mercedes’s Lewis Hamilton could be knighted in the New Year’s Honours list after winning his 7th F1 World Championship in 2020 to become F1’s most successful driver of all time.
