Motorsport Update – 28th September

Last weekend provided a fantastic amount of Motorsport Action. F1 headed to Russia and for the Russian GP in Sochi with fans and the BTCC headed to Silverstone National with racing there held behind closed doors due to the Covid 19 pandemic. 

F1 Russian GP top 3 classification 

  1. Valtteri Bottas (Mercedes)
  2. Max Verstappen (Red Bull) 
  3. Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes) 
  • Lewis Hamilton received two five second penalty for practice starting in the wrong place. 
  • McLaren’s Carlos Sainz crashed at T2 and Racing Point’s Lance Stroll crashed at T4 which caused a Safety Car. 
  • Valtteri Bottas (Mercedes) won his second race of the season,
  • A few drivers were noted by the stewards after failing to go around the bollard at T2.

BTCC

Race 1 Top 3 

  1. Dan Cammish (Halfords Yuasa Racing) 
  2. Tom Ingram (Toyota Gazzo Racing UK with Ginsters) 
  3. Rory Butcher (Motorbase) 

Highlights

  • Micheal Crees of the Clever Baggers with BTC Racing got beached in the Gravel after contact with the GKR Trade Price Cars’s Audi S3 of James Gornall at Becketts. 
  • Dan Cammish won a tightly contested race. 

Race 2 Top 3

  1. Colin Turkington (WSR Team BMW) 
  2. Dan Cammish (Halfords Yuasa Racing) 
  3. Adam Morgan (Carlube Triple R Racing) 

Highlights 

  • Laser Tools Racing Ash Sutton and Motorbase’s Rory Butcher collided on Lap 1 at Becketts.
  • Toyota Gazzo Racing UK with Ginsters, Tom Ingram and Laser Tools’s Ash Sutton both suffered late race punctures. 

Race 3 Top 3

  1. Ollie Jackson (Motorbase) 
  2. Tom Olliphant (WSR Team BMW) 
  3. Ash Sutton (Laser Tools Racing) 

Highlights 

  • Race 3 was red flagged after contact between Tom Onslow-Cole, Andy Neate and Tom Ingram at Luffield, 
  • The Motorbase of Neate was also involved in another coming together after contact with the Power Maxed Racing Vauxhall Astra of Jade Edwards on the exit of Luffield,
  • Motorbase’s Rory Butcher suffered a frightening crash after he made contact with the Halfords Yuasa Racing Honda Civic Type R FK8 of Matt Neal at Becketts which launched the Ford Focus St MK4 into the barriers.
