Listen: A nation of rep-EAT-ers when it comes to restaurant choices

A creature of habit can take many forms, from wearing the same type of clothes, having the same daily routine to
eating the same foods. This comes as new research by TheFork has shown that many Brits like to stick to what
they know as almost two thirds (64%) admit to being a creature of habit.

This pattern of behaviour isn’t limited to Brits’ restaurant choices as nearly half of people (42%) revealed that they
are more predictable in their restaurant choice than underwear! The new research has shown that 31% admit to
frequenting the same place they’ve been instead of venturing out to try somewhere new, making us a nation of rep-
eat-ers.

Decision paralysis has never been more apparent with 1 in 8 (13%) say they spend at least 168 hours researching
where to eat out before getting cold feet and reverting to one of their favourite haunts instead of trying something
new. It is therefore not surprising that since all restaurants had to close for dining due to the pandemic, nearly a
quarter of bland Brits have not been to a new restaurant in over a year. TheFork Festival is encouraging Brits to
take the opportunity to mix-up meal times, by adding flavour back to their beige lives with 50% off food at hundreds
of restaurants across the UK from now until November 28th.

Aston spoke to psychologist Prof Charles Spence and Patrick Hooykaas, regional managing director at TheFork.
