Listen: educational benefits to gaming

A career playing Pong or Space Invaders was a pipedream for kids growing up in the 70s, though there’s no doubt many would have jumped at the chance had it been more realistic.

Today, the global esports market is valued at more than £1.12 billion, with top players taking home multi-millions at gaming tournaments which fill major arenas.

Not only that, but gamers such as MrBeast, PewDiePie, and Dream have become household names, earning a celebrity-status which rivals, and even surpasses some A-list celebrities.

Therefore, it is no surprise that 70% parents would support their children in pursuing a career in esports, with almost one in five (18%) wanting to see esports-specific classes added to their curriculum, according to new research from King’s InterHigh.

Aston spoke to Nathan O’Grady, VR, AR & E-Sports lead at King’s InterHigh.
