Listen: summer holiday roadtrips

9:49am is the average time that families leave their houses to go on their UK holiday, after rush hour and before the lunch time rush.

However, just 28 and a half minutes into the journey, the kids ask that dreaded question…

“Are we nearly there yet?”

This for many parents will be the moment to reach for the packed bag in the footwell and reach in for the snacks – which, for 81%, is the top essential item for parents travelling in a car with kids.

Other essential items include an iPad or tablet (67%) and an activity or colouring in books (33%), according to new research by Welcome Break who have launched a partnership with Twinkl to give out free activity packs to help with long car journeys.

Aston spoke to parenting expert Anita Cleare.
