Louise Redknapp on our children’s pocket money habits
Helping their parents with chores around the house in exchange for pocket money is a staple of any childhood – but it appears that cash is no longer king when it comes to the rewards children want for their help at home.
A new study* by Sky Mobile has revealed that 4 in 5 (84%) parents are now turning to alternative rewards with extra screentime on devices (18%), sweet treats (13%) and in-game purchases (13%) coming out on top.
Half of parents (50%) have completely replaced cash as a reward, with 52% choosing to gift other treats to stop their kids spending their money all in one go, and 44% preferring other methods as it is cheaper.
