Martin Roberts on having the best summer garden

Brits are constantly engaged in ‘friendly garden banter’ with their neighbours, as they desperately try to keep up with the Joneses.

44% feel the competitive spirit come over them when they see next door’s flower beds, while four in 10 have turned the condition of their lawn into a heated contest.

The research by fencing company DuraPost also shows that 40% have even spoken directly with their neighbours to make the rivalry official, as over a third (38%) admit the grass looks greener on the other side of the garden fence.
