Motorsport Update – 21st September

Last weekend was a busy weekend for Motorsport with the BTCC heading to Thruxton and the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Last weekend produced lots of great action from both categories. 

The BTCC headed to the high speed Thruxton for Rounds 14, 15 and 16 of the Championship.

Thruxton Race 1 Top 3

1st: Tom Ingram (Toyota Gazoo Racing UK) 

2nd: Dan Cammish (Halfords Yuasa Racing) 

3rd: Matt Neal (Halfords Yuasa Racing) 

Highlights From Race 1

  • Tom Ingram claims his first win of the season, 
  • Colin Turkington suffered mechanical issues for WSR Team BMW, 
  • Motorbase’s Andy Neate and Carl Boardley collide at Club. 

Race 2 Top 3 Drivers (Same as Race 1)

1st: Tom Ingram (Toyota Gazoo Racing UK) 

2nd: Dan Cammish (Halfords Yuasa Racing) 

3rd: Matt Neal (Halfords Yuasa Racing) 

Race 2 Highlights 

  • Tom Ingram claims his second win of the day for Toyota Gazoo Racing UK with Ginsters with maximum ballast, 
  • Motorbase’s Andy Neate suffers more bad luck after colliding with Tom Onslow-Cole at Club, 
  • Josh Cook starts on Pole for R16 (Reverse Grid) 

Race 3 Top 3 Drivers 

1st: Josh Cook (BTC Racing)

2nd: Tom Chilton (BTC Racing)

3rd: Rory Butcher (Motorbase)

Race 3 Highlights 

  • Josh Cook takes his first win of the season,
  • The Clever Baggers with BTC Racing, Micheal Crees unfortunately had bad luck after suffering a puncture on the last lap which he retired from a very strong postion. 

Le Mans was also on this weekend and Toyota won their third straight Le Mans 24 Hours.

LMP1: Toyota Gazoo Racing (Sebastian Buemi, Kazuki Nakajima & Brenden Hartley). 

LMP2: (Jota) United Autosports (Oreca 07 Gibson) (Paul DI Resta, Felipe Albuquerque & Phillip Hanson).

GTE Pro: (Aston Martin Racing) (Alex Lynn, Maxime Martin & Harry Tincknell)  Aston Martin Vantage

GTE AM: (Aston Martin Racing) (Charlie Eastwood, Jonathan Adam & Salih Yoluc) Aston Martin Vantage.

The motorsport update will return next week on Monday 28th October 2020 as F1 heads to Sochi for the Russian GP whilst the BTCC heads to Silverstone National circuit for Rounds 16,17 and 18 of the championship.
