Turning clutter into cash for Christmas

As the holiday season looms, millions of us grappling with the financial strain of Christmas might find their solution within the confines of their homes. With the challenge of making a paycheck stretch until after the festive season, a clutter clear-out is emerging as a timely and accessible remedy.

Recent research reveals the thriving landscape of online marketplace selling, with an impressive 45% successfully selling items in the past year, collectively accumulating an estimated £5.9 billion. Notably, 28% have surpassed their previous sales records, showcasing a diverse age range participating, including a surprising 27% from the 55+ demographic and 65% from Gen Z and Millennials, emerging as the top online marketplace sellers.

Yet, amidst this potential cash windfall, most of us (74%) admit to hoarding items rarely seeing the light of day. In light of this, the award-winning financial educator, Timi Merriman-Johnson – also known as Mr MoneyJar – is teaming up with the Post Office to encourage more people to take up marketplace selling. He urges homeowners to explore the untapped value within their unused items, presenting an opportunity to transform homes into treasure troves of cash. This collaboration follows the rollout of DPD and Evri as two new in-branch carriers at Post Office branches nationwide, providing a one stop shop for customers and marketplace sellers.
