Vegan Christmas

23rd December 2019
Posted by Aston Avery

Whether you like it or not, the number of vegans in the UK is rapidly on the rise — with the figure quadrupling in the five years to 2019. In fact, Google searches for veganism increased seven fold in that time and in the last year UK food producers have launched more vegan products than any other nation.

However, while you still might panic at the thought of inviting a vegan round for Christmas, new research shows that we’re actually becoming more flexible and accommodating to our meat-free friends. Almost a quarter (24%) expect to cater for vegans and vegetarians this Christmas, with 15% looking forward to it as it gives them a chance to experiment more in the kitchen. Only 8% said they would deliberately exclude people with specific dietary requirements, according to data from The Vegan Society.

Aston spoke to Day Radley, International Professional Chef, cooking teacher and food writer to explain how easy it is to replace meat, dairy and eggs with vegan alternatives.
