Basildon Council leader answers questions on recycling sacks

Basildon Council’s new waste and recycling collection service has sparked controversy amongst residents since it was introduced last November and more than a thousand people have signed online petitions in an effort to get councillors to rethink and change it back.

Unpopular are the shopping bag style receptacles replacing pink sacks for cardboard, plastic, and cans, and there have also been health concerns too, with the wrong kind of waste being placed in some of the bags.  Collection times have changed too, but how is Basildon now doing with meeting its 65% target for recycling our waste?

Gateway’s Ros Connors spoke with Councillor Andrew Baggott, the Leader of the Conservative-run Basildon Council.
