Basildon Volunteer Awards 2024

The 2024 Basildon Volunteer Awards took place at the Towngate Theatre on Tuesday 27th February. The event hosted by Basildon Youth Council recognised all of the volunteers across the Basildon Borough throughout the previous year and even lifetime as well.

Our very own Aston Avery was a recipient of an award at the event winning the Fundraising Champion category.

Here are this year’s winners and highly commended at the awards.

Volunteer Group/Project of the Year

  • Winner: Billericay Men’s Shed
  • Highly Commended: Basildon Pride CIO

Young Volunteer of the Year (11 – 21yrs)

  • Winner: Ella Bunce – Billericay Foodbank
  • Highly Commended: Callum Douglas – Basildon Heritage & Twinning

Fundraising Champion

  • Winner: Aston Avery – Team Avery Essex/Gateway 97.8/Annakennedyonline
  • Highly Commended: Sam Read – MYOTAS (My Own Time and Space)

Inspirational Role Model

  • Winner: Kim Barford – Billericay Men’s Shed
  • Highly Commended: Clinton John – Hashtag United U10 Girls Team

Long Service Award

  • Winner: Christine Garland – La Danse Fantastique
  • Highly Commended: Iris Lane – Motivated Minds

Community Star

  • Winner: Lorraine Knight – Trust Links
  • Highly Commended: Peter Davies – BOSP (Brighter Opportunities for Special People)

People’s Choice Award (Voted for by the Public)

  • Winner: John Hailes – Hope Community Supermarket

Lifetime Achievement

  • Winner: June Maylin – Blind and Sight Impaired Society
  • Highly Commended: Karen Pullen – The Craig Tyler Trust

  • Winner – Kim Barford – Billericay Men’s Shed

Aston caught up with some of the guests at the event including the Deputy Mayor of Basildon Cllr Yetunde Adeshile.
