New research from the not-for-profit, Recycle Your Electricals campaign, has shone a light on the hidden cash value in old tech across the UK.

It has revealed that households could earn between £1,304 and £6,331 by selling old electrical items through re-selling platforms. The research shows that the 880 million old working electrical items currently gathering dust in the UK – 31 per household – could be worth upwards of £36.7bn.

Buying and selling electricals is part of an ever-growing trend with two thirds of adults saying they were open to selling these electricals and a third open to buying. Households are holding onto multiple old electrical items, including nearly 3 old mobile phones and 2 old laptops.
