Hay fever symptoms worse due to climate change

Hay fever sufferers have been warned that rising temperatures will cause havoc with their symptoms as the Met Office forecast early pollen release as a result of unusually warm weather.

Rising temperatures from climate change cause flowers to bloom earlier and increase the amount of carbon dioxide emitted, leading to higher pollen concentrations in the air.

This is reflected by sufferers’ experiences, as new research from Kleenex reveals they blame pollution (64%), rising temperatures (52%) and extreme weather conditions (38%) as the biggest environmental factors impacting their allergies.

Freya spoke to Amena Warner, head of clinical services at Allergy UK.
