Listen: Preparing for the world of work

New research has highlighted how the current education system has failed to adequately prepare students for the workforce over the past two decades since the Edge Foundation was founded.

The research found that the majority of respondents (52%) think the current education system prepares young people poorly for the world of work. 37% think a person leaving the education system today is worse prepared for the workplace than someone leaving 20 years ago, with 1 in 10 “much worse”.

The poll by Edge Foundation has for the first time looked at attitudes towards 16-18 education reform, the parity between ‘academic’ and ‘vocational’ pathways, and how well the system is preparing young people for life and work.

Ros spoke to Alice Barnard, CEO of the Edge Foundation.
