World Refugee Day

In the Global Trends Report recently released by UNHCR, it was revealed that by the end of 2022, a record 108.4M people had been forcibly displaced from their homes, an increase of up to 19.1M from 2021. The most common reasons for people having to flee their homes included war, persecution, violence and human rights abuses.

More than three in four refugees needing protection are currently hosted by low or middle class income countries with ongoing crises in Sudan, Ukraine and Afghanistan.

UNHCR in the UK has released some short films so that you can hear directly from those who have been forced to flee their homes to gain a deeper understanding of just how important a home is to a refugee.

Aston spoke to Emma Cherniavsky, UK chief executive for UN’s Refugee Agency (the UNHCR).
