St. Luke’s Hospice is inviting the public to dedicate a song to a loved one as part of a special ‘Light up a Life’ radio dedication show this Christmas-time.

As part of its annual Light up a Life appeal, the charity has teamed up with Gateway 97.8 and Basildon Hospital Radio (BHR) 87.7 for a unique celebration which takes place in the form of a special two-hour radio dedication show.

The dedication show will air on Gateway 97.8 and BHR 87.7 on the 20th December, 1pm – 3pm, and will include a pause where listeners will be invited to join the Hospice in lighting a candle to remember a loved one.

Light up a Life is the charity’s annual appeal, which gives people the chance to come together to remember a loved one at Christmas-time while also supporting St. Luke’s Hospice with a donation in their name. This year, due to the impact of the coronavirus pandemic on public gatherings, St. Luke’s Hospice cannot hold its traditional ‘Light up a Life’ services.

Sarah Stoddart, Individual Giving Manager at St. Luke’s Hospice, said:

“Our annual Light up a Life appeal helps raise funds for the Hospice so we can continue providing compassionate care for local people and their families. Light up a Life is also really special for many people in our community who look forward to joining us in remembering loved-ones at Christmas-time.

“The current pandemic means that we’re unable to come together as a community in person and we have had to cancel our Light up a Life services this year. However we would encourage you to still join us in spirit by dedicating a song to a loved-one, tuning in to the show and lighting a candle in remembrance. I’d like to say a big thank you to Gateway 97.8 and BHR 87.7 for their support with this new Light up a Life radio dedication show during these unprecedented times.”
